The strength of the Anglican vision has always been the holding together of strengths: heart and mind, spirituality and intellectual effort, thought and action, academy and parish. More than ever, the Episcopal Church in the United States and the Anglican Church of Canada need the strength of disciplined theological reflection which is grounded in the life of the church in its parochial life.

With the financial pressures on seminaries and parishes we need to equip all the saints for the work of ministry and this can only be done by reforging the connections between disciplined theological reflection and christian life in the parish and in the world. The Society of Scholar Priests exists to support the rediscovery of the “both-and” of scholarly reflection in the context of and in service to the life of the people of God, and the practical exploration of the needs of the parish in the context of the theological academy.
