The Scholar-Priest Initiative is committed to not only to avoiding partisanship, but also to steadfastly pursuing a post-partisan ethos. We take our cue from St. Paul, who in his second letter to the church in Corinth described the work of Christians as a “ministry of reconciliation,” flowing out of the worship of a God “who reconciled us to himself through Christ” (2 Cor. 5.18). In SPI’s colloquial construal, we commit ourselves to the ‘beer principle’. This conference will accordingly seek to address the virtues necessary to sustain dialogue—even disagreement—while maintaining unity in the essentials of the faith.
