The Rev’d Dr. Victor Lee Austin
The Rev’d Dr. Victor Lee Austin has been theologian-in-residence at Saint Thomas Church Fifth Avenue, New York City, since 2005. Before coming to Saint Thomas, he was assistant professor of religious studies, philosophy, and theology at Mount Aloysius College, Cresson, Pennsylvania. Prior to that, he was rector of the Church of the Resurrection in Hopewell Junction, New York. He has also been on the adjunct faculty of a number of institutions, and he initially served as a curate. His doctorate in theology was awarded by Fordham University in 2002.
Father Austin’s book, Up with Authority: Why We Need Authority to Flourish as Human Beings, was published by T&T Clark and was shortlisted for the 2013 Michael Ramsey prize. Saint Thomas published a collection of his short pieces, Priest in New York: Church, Street, and Theology, reflections on theology and everyday life, and about a decade earlier Church Publishing brought forth a similar volume, A Priest’s Journal. His most recent book, Christian Ethics: A Guide for the Perplexed, is also published by Bloomsbury/T&T Clark. Forthcoming from Brazos Press is a theological memoir, Brain Disease and the Priest’s Wife.
The Rev’d Dr. Michael Cover
Father Cover (Ph.D., University of Notre Dame) is Assistant Professor in Theology (Judaism and Christianity in Antiquity) at Marquette University. He and his family attend Trinity Church in Wauwatosa, WI. Prior to coming to Milwaukee, Fr. Cover was a Lilly Postdoctoral Fellow at Valparaiso University and Theologian in Residence at St. Francis Episcopal Church in Chesterton, Indiana. Fr. Cover served as an examining chaplain for the Bishop of Northern Indiana, and has worked in a number of parishes in Indiana and Wisconsin. A 2008 graduate of Yale Divinity School and Berkeley Divinity School, he was ordained priest in 2010 in the Diocese of Dallas. His research interests include Paul, Philo of Alexandria, and their reception in early Christianity. His first book, Lifting the Veil (Walter de Gruyter, 2015) is a study of Paul’s interpretation of scripture in 2 Corinthians. He has previously published work in the Studia Philonica Annual and contributed essays to several conference volumes, including a recent article on Pauline allegorical exegesis in a forthcoming collection entitled Scripture and Theology: Galatians (Baker Academic, 2014). Fr. Cover is married to Susanna, a homemaker and occasional freelance editor, and the two enjoy spending time with their two daughters, Elizabeth and Lucy.
The Rev’d Dr. Frederick W. Schmidt, Jr
The Reverend Dr. Frederick W. Schmidt, Jr. holds the Rueben P. Job Chair in Spiritual Formation at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, IL, and directs the Rueben Job Institute for Spiritual Formation. He is an Episcopal Priest, spiritual director, retreat facilitator, conference leader, writer, and consulting editor at Church Publishing in New York. He is the author of numerous published articles and reviews, as well as several books: A Still Small Voice: Women, Ordination and the Church (Syracuse University Press, 1998), The Changing Face of God (Morehouse, 2000), When Suffering Persists (Morehouse, 2001), in Italian translation: Sofferenza, All ricerca di una riposta (Torino: Claudiana, 2004), What God Wants for Your Life (Harper, 2005), Conversations with Scripture: Revelation (Morehouse, 2005), Conversations with Scripture: Luke (Morehouse, 2009), and The Dave Test (Abingdon, 2013). He and his wife, Natalie (who is also an academic and an Episcopal priest), live in Highland Park, Illinois, with their Gordon Setter, Hilda of Whitby. They have four children and four grandchildren: Henry, Addie, Heidi, and Sophie.
The Rev’d Dr. Miranda K. Hassett
The Rev. Dr. Miranda K. Hassett is the Rector of St. Dunstan’s Church, in Madison, WI. She has served at St. Dunstan’s since January of 2011. She was ordained to the priesthood in 2009. Rev. Miranda received her Master of Divinity degree from the Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Prior to attending seminary, she earned a Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology from the University of North Carolina, and wrote a book based on her dissertation research, Anglican Communion in Crisis: How Episcopal Dissident and Their African Allies are Reshaping Anglicanism.
The Rev’d Dr. Andrew Davison
Dr Davison is the Starbridge Lecturer in Theology and Natural Sciences in the Cambridge University Faculty of Divinity. Previously, he was tutor in doctrine at Westcott House, Cambridge (2010-14) and before that tutor in doctrine at St Stephen’s House, Oxford and junior chaplain of Merton College (2006-10). He read chemistry at Merton in the 1990s, followed by a DPhil in biochemistry. He read Tripos in theology and religious studies at Corpus Christi, Cambridge and subsequently completed a PhD in philosophical theology with Dr Catherine Pickstock in the faculty. He is a priest of the Church of England and served a curacy in South East London.Andrew is author of several books, most recently Care for the Dying (Canterbury Press, 2014 – with the physician Sioned Evans), The Love of Wisdom: An Introduction to Philosophy for Theologians (SCM, 2013) and Why Sacraments? (SPCK, 2013; Wipf and Stock, 2013). His study of mission and the church, with Alison Milbank, For the Parish: A Critique of Fresh Expressions (SCM, 2010) provoked widespread debate as the most significant theological critique of this trend in contemporary Anglican ecclesiology. His edited volume, Imaginative Apologetics: Theology, Philosophy and the Catholic Tradition (SCM, 2011; Baker Academic, 2012) has been taken up, in particular, in the United States.
